Cyprus


There are many choices of study that international students may choose for applying in the universities and colleges of Cyprus. Cyprus is most well known for the study of Hotel, Hospitality and Tourism Management Programs. Most of the colleges in Cyprus offer the diploma and under graduate programs in Hospitality management and Hotel management. Working in Cyrus for students studying in the fields of Hospitality management and Hotel management is allowed during the busy summer months offering students the ability to put their hotel training into application. In general education is compulsory for children from approximately 4 years old in the Republic of Cyprus. There are both state and private schools available, with some of the private schools teaching in English. For expatriates living in Cyprus there are several private International Schools, including Highgate Primary and Secondary schools, the American International School of Cyprus and Falcon High School.

The Cyprus Government has also made it a policy of ensuring that the children of European citizens can continue with their high school education while they live in Cyprus by offering Intensive Greek language courses. Training is provided to teachers to help them in teaching children whose first language is not Greek.
In Cyprus, children attend pre-school education from the age of 4 to 5, primary education from 5 to 11 and secondary education from 11 to 18. Cyprus has the University of Cyprus, private universities, colleges, schools and state training institutions such as the Forestry College, the Higher Technical Institute, and the Higher Hotel Institute.
Students enrolled in the university semester program, earn up to 16 credits for courses in the following areas: Economics, Finance, Accounting, Communications, Business Administration, Marketing, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Graphic Design, Hotel Management, Travel and Tourism, Psychology, International Relations, Law, and Pre-Medicine. A 2.5 GPA, along with transcripts, letters of recommendation, and a statement of purpose are required for students to gain admission to the Intercollege university program.

Intercollege of Cyprus is an independent, co-educational institution, which has campuses in the capital city of Nicosia, and the coastal towns of Limassol and Larnaca. It grants degrees and professional diplomas in conjunction with twelve British institutions, the University of Indianapolis, the State University of New York and Thomas Edison State College.
In the Cyprus Semester system there are three semesters in a year in the colleges. They are:
Fall Semester (Oct -Jan)
Spring Semester (Feb -May)
Summer Semester (June -July)
Most of the country's colleges offer all the courses in fall and spring semesters but only have limited courses in the summer semester. Most international students enrol in Cyprus in Fall Semester (October).
The applicant is required to submit the allowing items in order to apply for admission generally.

Financial support letter of more that US$ 10,000 per year.
Learning English in Cyprus: Students who haven't completed their TOEFL, IELT, English GCSE (GCE) O' levels will need to sit in the EPT (English Placement Test) and the colleges will make all necessary arrangements for the issuance of a student VISA. The tuition fees of courses in Cyprus are generally cheaper than other European countries with the average tuition fee per semester being approximately US$ 2000.
